MAFF confirms classical swine fever outbreak at Ehime pig farm
Published · Updated
What happened
MAFF confirmed a new classical swine fever outbreak at a pig farm in Ozu City, Ehime Prefecture, and started culling about 4,000 pigs while investigating how the virus entered the farm.
Why it matters
The outbreak requires immediate animal-health control measures, movement restrictions, and tracing at farms and transport links connected to the site. It can tighten pork supply in the affected area and test whether current biosecurity and wild-boar control measures are containing farm-to-farm spread.
Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries said on 2026-10-27 that classical swine fever was confirmed at a pig farm in Ozu City, Ehime Prefecture. The ministry said about 4,000 pigs would be culled and that epidemiological work had started to identify the infection route. The case is the 108th domestic confirmation of CSF and adds a new containment operation in western Japan.
