Armed kidnapping in Independencia is assigned to prosecutor and PDI anti-kidnapping unit

What happened
Four armed men abducted a Peruvian liquor-store owner in Independencia early on 2026-09-23, and she was later located in Colina. Chilean media reported that the Metropolitan North prosecutor's office took the case and that the PDI anti-kidnapping unit is leading investigative work.
Why it matters
A kidnapping involving armed offenders in Greater Santiago raises the operational burden on prosecutors and police because it can require rapid evidence collection, victim protection, and coordination across communes. The assignment to a specialized PDI unit makes the case a near-term test of investigative capacity and of whether authorities can show progress fast enough to shape public confidence.
