Singapore EMA launches energy storage vision and industry consultation
Published · Updated
What happened
The Energy Market Authority released an Energy Storage Systems Vision and consultation paper and invited industry submissions on technologies and business models for scaling deployment. EMA set out a 2030 objective to increase Singapore's energy storage capacity from about 350 MWh to about 1 GWh.
Why it matters
The consultation starts the next implementation phase for power-system flexibility in a land-constrained grid with rising shares of imports, solar generation, and electrification. It can shape procurement rules, revenue models, and technical standards that affect developers, utilities, large consumers, and grid reliability planning.
Singapore's Energy Market Authority on 2026-10-26 launched an Energy Storage Systems Vision and an industry consultation paper seeking proposals on scalable storage technologies and business models. EMA said Singapore aims to raise installed storage capacity from about 350 megawatt-hours to around 1 gigawatt-hour by 2030. The move opens a policy and market-design window on how the city-state will procure, integrate, and remunerate storage across its power system.
