What happened
The State Bank of Pakistan said on October 26 that first-quarter FY2026-27 Federal Board of Revenue collections rose 7% from a year earlier and were Rs33 billion above target. In the same communication, the SBP assessed that the overall fiscal balance and the primary balance remained in surplus.
Why it matters
A central bank assessment that revenue is running above target and both fiscal balances remain in surplus changes the near-term baseline for borrowing, cash management, and tax enforcement. It also affects how markets and lenders read Pakistan's ability to keep the budget on track while financing conditions are tight.
In its October 26 monetary-policy communication, the State Bank of Pakistan said Federal Board of Revenue collections in the first quarter of FY2026-27 grew 7% year on year and exceeded target by Rs33 billion. The SBP also said the overall fiscal balance and the primary balance were assessed to remain in surplus. The update gives fiscal authorities an official same-day signal that early budget execution is holding despite tighter financing conditions and higher energy-related pressure.
