UK government moves to extend UK REACH transitional dossier deadlines
Published · Updated
What happened
The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs published its response to the UK REACH consultation and said it intends to legislate, subject to devolved consent, to extend transitional dossier submission deadlines by up to three years. The proposed new deadlines are October 2029, October 2030 and October 2031 instead of 2026, 2028 and 2030.
Why it matters
The announcement changes the compliance timetable for companies placing chemicals on the GB market and delays when some registration costs must be incurred. It also reduces the near-term chance that firms withdraw substances from sale because they cannot assemble full dossiers on the previous timetable.
The UK government said on 26 October that it intends, subject to devolved consent, to legislate to move UK REACH transitional registration dossier deadlines from 2026, 2028 and 2030 to 2029, 2030 and 2031. The announcement came in the published government response to the consultation on extending those deadlines. For chemical manufacturers, importers and downstream users, the change resets near-term compliance planning and may reduce the risk of substances dropping out of the UK market before replacement data is filed.
